CNN announced that Money Magazine has selected Murfreesboro, TN as one of the BEST places to live in 2006! The honor doesn't come as a surprize to residents of the quaint city of Murfreesboro though. Residents here have known for a long time that Murfreesboro is one of the best kept secrets of the south. However, the new ranking among Money Magazine's top cities is sure to reveal this secret to the rest of the world!
The strong job market, affordable housing, educational opportunities, and no state income tax were important factors in placing Murfreesboro in the list of desired areas in which to live, work, and raise a family. Residents of Murfreesboro feel that they have a wonderful quality of life and enjoy short commutes to work, shopping, dining and cultural events. Murfreesboro is steeped in history and was a key player during the Civil War. Located in the exact geographical center of the state, there is quick access to numerous vacation spots for those impromptu trips. The Great Smokey Mountains and Atlanta are both less a four hour drive from Murfreesboro.Chattanooga and Lookout Mountain is just over an hour drive. There is also convenient access to other major cities such as Chicago, or popular vacation spots such the Florida Coast or Gulf Shores.
Murfreesboro is located in Rutherford County which is the fastest growing county in the State. Earlier in the year, Rutherford County was the fastest growing job market in the nation! There is a new exit for Murfreesboro off of I24 named Medical Center Parkway. This new exit opens up even more areas of Murfreesboro for quick access to the interstate and will surely result in even more development in the area. The Avenue is an upscale outdoor shopping mall that is currently being constructed on Medical Center Parkway. Doors to the mall are anticipated to open in the fall of 2007 and will be home to over 100 retailers. Embassy Suites has also announced construction plans for a 10 story hotel/confention center that is estimated to be open in Spring 2008.
Murfreesboro is a vibrant community that has managed to maintain its "home town" feeling despite the growth. The people here are friendly and have a strong family committment. Parents are active in the schools and there are endless extra-curricular activies for children and adults to become involved in. Fom the Discovery Center Children's Museum to Middle Tennessee State University, gourmet dining at the fabulous Five Senses Restaurant to a quick bite a McDonalds, Murfreesboro truly has something for everyone.
